In-the-Making

Ongoing Training Initiative

In-the-Making offers an alternative job training program for women who want to enter or re-enter the working world. Over a three-month period, about a dozen women are employed at In-the-Making's Assembly Center, where they are responsible to be
in-the-making of change, and work at whatever task is assigned with speed and accuracy.

Small Business Initiative
While In-the-Making trains women in suitable employment skills, its ultimate goal is to see them hired as employees of Waterbury area businesses. Since many of these women are challenged by personal difficulties, we have to realize that our training program must extend way beyond our organization and into cooperation with other employers.

Job Development Initiative
We ask that area businesses be a resource to women we select as having the greatest potential for success in your work world. In exchange, we propose to shoulder the burden of workmen's compensation. We will keep the women on our payroll until everyone agrees that they are ready to transition to your payroll. We will monitor their performance. We ask only that you give them and us a chance to succeed.

Cooperative Development
The benefits, of course, are immeasurable. This program offers the promise of a first-rate employee whose heart will follow her skills. In addition, the contribution your effort makes to the community will reimburse you immeasurably. Together we will raise the social and economic baseline of our social fabric.

The Match
The match should be workable for the three entities: worker, employer, and ITM:

Worker - enters workplace where there is welcome, enthusiasm, service and additional job history and experience

Employer - recognition for providing assistance with life skills and job skills.

In-the-Making, Inc. - increases additional job development opportunities for its workers.

THE BOTTOM LINE:

  • Workmen's compensation: In-the-Making assumes the liability.
  • Unemployment cost: there is none because In-the-Making is a training program.
  • Benefits: there are none because In-the-Making is a part-time training program without benefits.
  • Wages: Agreed upon
  • Evaluation: Together, we agree on periodic evaluations and their procedures.
  • What it costs you: We bill you what we pay our employees plus overhead.
