WHAT IS THE BEE IN YOUR BONNET?
Following a meeting in 2002 which addressed legislative issues, twelve representative of local agencies and community volunteers decided to answer the question: What is stinging you about the world of programs in Waterbury?
The results, Bees in Your Bonnet, formed to identify:
- what assistance is available in the Waterbury area
- the process for receiving assistance and what it actually and practically entails
- where the barriers for receiving assistance lie and
- how the various agencies can assist each other in providing assistance.
The Bees meet monthly to better understand the complex and changing circumstances of the world of programs. The intent is to continue to hear the voices of the poor and to take direction for change from them. It is a daunting task, even for those who through their clients, have direct experience of poverty and powerlessness, but enthusiasm is high. The Bees truly buzz in 2007 for the honey of justice and liberation. Another summit with Mayor Michael J Jarjura and legislation is planned.
